Foreword Oh! BPO is a unique book. It is simple, straightforward, and well laid out. Most importantly, it is one book that gets to the core of the issues and concerns regarding the BPO industry. It does not beat around the bush; it calls a spade a spade. It is an excellent guide to anyone who wants to get inducted into the Indian BPO industry. Not only does it cover all the aspects of the industry, but also provokes thought into changes that are needed to sustain growth over the years. Oh! BPO would appeal to a manager in the BPO industry, an 18-year-old looking for her first job, and also to her family and friends. It provides valuable information to people planning to shift careers from other industries to the world of BPO, and orients customers in understanding the nuances of the Indian BPO business. It can help entrepreneurs identify the trends and the opportunities in the industry and will certainly make many chief executive officers of the BPO industry ponder on the direction they have taken and contemplate on the road ahead.
Lastly, it will help the media to understand the positives of the industry and the role that this industry has played in shaping the careers of 600,000 youths in India. This will hopefully make them proactive in supporting the industry by presenting a realistic picture. Constructive and positive communication from the press will go a long way in sustaining and increasing the confidence of the industry-something that is very critical as the industry starts expanding into smaller towns. It is in this context that I applaud the kind of efforts put in by VAK (V. Anandkumar) and Subhasish in presenting a candid and compelling picture of the BPO industry in India, and I am sure this book will play a role in changing the direction of the
BPO industry in India in the years to come!
